Competition and Consumer Law

Understanding your obligations

Competition and Consumer Law

Competition and Consumer law refers to the national framework of regulations that operate to protect the interests of consumers and regulate the manner in which businesses sell goods or deliver their services.

Conduct that may be covered by Competition and Consumer Law includes unfair contract terms, false or misleading representations, Consumer Guarantees, anti-competitive practices and misleading and deceptive conduct.

These matters are administered by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), which is an independent Commonwealth statutory authority responsible for enforcing rules, promoting competition and regulating anti-competitive and misleading and deceptive conduct.
